Siemens sees the energy transformation as a major opportunity for German industry and the entire world market. Within the next ten years, up to 2022, the country will complete its exit from nuclear energy and at the same time reduce its carbon emissions.
The Siemens Environmental Portfolio will make major contributions to these efforts. The Portfolio includes wind power plants, high-voltage, direct-current power transmission lines, smart grids and many other components and solutions for saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. In its last fiscal year, the company generated revenue of nearly 30 billion euros with the Portfolio. In the same period, Siemens customers eliminated around 320 million tons of CO2 emissions with these technologies, which correspond to nearly one percent of the world's annual CO2 emissions. Siemens received the German Sustainability Award for its comprehensive sustainability strategy.
