Electromobility is not merely a new form of transportation. The global climate change, the progressive growth of the world’s population and the shortage of resources are forcing us to rethink. Today we need a pioneering spirit more than ever. Electrical energy is the key to sustainable solutions – electric cars will be the environmentally-friendly vehicles of the future. Innovative solutions by Siemens equip the intelligent power network for the requirements of electromobility. On April 30, 2010 Siemens held a unique event in Berlin, the pioneering city of electromobility. On Potsdamer Platz, in the heart of the city, journalists and visitors could see how electromobility was featured in the past and what can be done today with a combination of renewable energies and intelligent power networks, the so-called smart grids. The company presented for the first time an exact replica of the historic “Electric Victoria” – an electric car that was used in Berlin as an elegant hotel taxi beginning in 1905. The event also highlighted modern electric cars, such as the eRuf demonstration vehicles and the requisite charging and payment systems.
