Press event: Offshore Converter Stations for the German Energiewende

The "Energiewende" is Germany's project of the century. The wide-ranging transformation of a large industrial country's energy supply system towards a renewable energy's share of 80 percent is unique and offers Germany the chance to act as a role model for other countries.

Such pioneerwork is connected with challenges, as we enter new ways and develop real innovations. This is particulary true for offshore converter stations, which are being built to operate reliably for several decades underharsh environmental conditions. They will transmit electricity generated in wind farms far away from the coast to the mainland with virtually no losses.

Siemens brings HelWin cluster windfarm on line - Offshore HVDC platform for low-loss transmission to the onshore grid

Working in consortium with the Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian, Siemens Energy is erecting HelWin 2, the link between the North Sea offshore windfarm Amrumbank West and the onshore grid.

Following the grid connections for the offshore wind farm clusters BorWin2 and HelWin1, Siemens Energy will also install a turnkey grid connection in the North Sea for the SylWin cluster.
