Since the first day, I had been fully supported by the FEP team in regard to all my administrative (flexible starting period, working permit services, etc.) and more general concerns (such as family gatherings and integration). In order to facilitate my integration and business interactions with colleagues, the FEP offered me two months of intensive German courses and constant support on topics related to the company organization, rules, and processes.
One of my assignments was a fossil power generation project, where I worked for the financial and commercial manager of the project. I was involved in all the daily operational activities and reflections like VAT topics or subcontractors’ performances and account clarifications. The key items included cost controlling, planning, project reporting, and dealing with subcontractors and customer topics (e.g. payments and change orders). In order to get a complete overview of a large project in progress, I worked directly on the construction site (commercial issues like short orders, change-to-work orders etc.) and in the regional unit side of the project (in Paris) for some weeks.
Networking is a key element within large-scale organizations. For me, it is about knowing people within Siemens who know your strengths and are able to help you work on your weaknesses. Throughout the FEP, I got lots of exposure and really expanded my network. The interaction between FEP associates and alumni is very good. We exchange information and from time to time arrange informal get-togethers. Through our regular interactions, we have created a real FEP team spirit.
I soon realized - and I am thrilled – that I am part of a very strong corporate culture at Siemens. The hierarchical levels are relatively flat and thus one finds managers and executives to be both accessible and helpful. The goals and performance-appraisal process is really transparent. Because of the pioneering spirit, the innovative edge is always present within Siemens. Good and innovative ideas are always welcomed and promoted. Siemens really values people who think outside the box in order to create added value.
I really recommend this program to applicants because it is one of only very few managerial programs with real executive exposure. Also, the two-year job rotations enable you to see the different angles of our business in order to choose your career path more easily. At the end, working for Siemens is really exciting because you contribute to finding answers to how technology is able to support our communities. So, join the team that finds answers!
To be an executive tomorrow, you need to be prepared today!
