The SGP supports cultural interchange and makes the international Siemens community both tangible and accessible to program participants from the very start. Integrating talented individuals into our interdisciplinary and multifunctional global network at an early stage of their careers is one of the keys to our business success. Having successfully completed the SGP, participants will have all they need to start their careers on the right track.
Talented individuals don’t grow on trees. They must be given the opportunity to grow and develop, both personally and professionally. At Siemens, we have gone to great lengths in putting structures in place that help talented new employees prepare for a successful career. You have two very exciting years ahead of you, subdivided into three eight-month assignments. Together, they will provide you with deep insight, invaluable experience and lasting contacts. And to ensure that you make the most of your experiences, you’ll have a personal mentor at your side for the entire 24-month period.
During the course of the SGP, your personal mentor will take on a variety of tasks and roles, supporting your own endeavors wherever and whenever necessary. Once you have gotten to know one another, your mentor will introduce you to the company’s most relevant areas. Another important part of this initial phase is the joint elaboration of your personal development plan. During the program, your mentor will help you to coordinate your various assignments. He or she will also assist you in answering difficult questions, establishing the necessary contacts while also allowing you to take advantage of his or her own network. Your mentor will advise you on your progression and in your development towards a specific function, all the while remaining accessible to you. In return, we will expect you to take the initiative, to take on responsibility for your projects and to show us that you are making the most of the mentor-mentee relationship. As you approach the end of the SGP, you and your mentor will jointly assess your personal and professional development and find a suitable position within the company, thereby ensuring a smooth transition from the SGP to your target function.
Every SGP participant is sent on an eight-month international assignment during the course of the program. As a globally operating company, this assignment is of great importance to us – and to you. Getting to know your international colleagues and learning to cooperate with them on an international level is one of the keys to our business success. You’ll have the chance to put all of your skills to the test during your assignment abroad, a time during which we will also make you more familiar with our ideas of intercultural and international understanding.
During the SGP, you will familiarize yourself with the diverse fields of activity of one of our Sectors. In fact, you’ll be required to work in at least two different functional areas. You might, for example, start in the field of product management or production, expanding on your newly gained knowledge and experience in the next phase. Later, you might move on to subject areas such as procurement, sales or marketing. This way, you’ll be able to obtain a comprehensive overview of Siemens, all the while gaining expertise and experience and a better idea of the many career opportunities available to you after the conclusion of the SGP.
Thanks to our wide range of training seminars, we are able to provide you with the know-how you’ll need to better understand Siemens while also establishing a knowledge basis for your further career. Our seminars will help to fill knowledge gaps and supplement your existing skills and qualifications. The seminars will, for example, provide more detailed insight into our corporate and management structures and our business strategy. You’ll also find out more about our core values and learn how to plan the course of your career. You’ll expand your horizons by learning the finer points of presentation, communication and negotiation on a national as well as international level. You’ll take a closer look at the procedures and approaches used by our project teams while getting to know yourself a little better. The basics of project management will also be covered, which you’ll then get to apply in a variety of interdisciplinary and international environments. Optional language seminars are available to help you prepare yourself for your international assignment.
The SGP’s learning modules are supplemented by a number of get-togethers as well as the annual “SGP World Conference”, where various topics of interest and importance are discussed. Here, you’ll have the chance to meet SGP participants from all around the world as well as members of the Siemens management level and HR departments. You’ll get to know the international Siemens Community first hand and you’ll also have the chance to establish new contacts, make new friends and exchange experiences. These opportunities are not only highly interesting from a professional point of view, they will also enable you to expand your personal network. And there’s plenty of fun to be had as well, of course.
At the start of the SGP we’ll sit down with you and your mentor and determine the general direction of you career path. It is important to us that the departments and managers that you’ll be dealing with during the course of your assignments are able to properly prepare for your arrival and thus meet the high demands of the SGP. The Siemens Graduate Program is after all essentially a “working program”; it’s all about learning by doing. You will be actively integrated into the day-to-day business of the respective project teams, assuming full responsibility for the tasks assigned to you.
Subdivided into strategic and operative elements, the contents of your personal program will cover specific components of the Siemens spectrum – from technical sales, engineering, production and sales to various commercial functions, marketing and human resources, just to name a few. The Siemens Graduate Program will give you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with at least two of these functional areas. Here, a graduate engineer, for example, might be given the chance to take a closer look at the areas of marketing or order management, before possibly starting his or her career as a sales manager after completion of the SGP. Having predetermined specific subject areas of interest, you will find yourself working in fields directly connected with your target position from the very start. This way, you’ll be able to join the appropriate business unit directly following successful program completion.
The SGP targets ambitious university graduates aiming for a subsequent career in management. You have completed your master or diploma studies with above-average grades or possibly expanded your specialist knowledge with a doctoral degree. You should have finished your studies either within the last year or, alternatively, you’ll do so in the next few months. And you’ll already have gained some work experience.
When joining the Siemens Graduate Program you’ll receive a standard work contract corresponding to the conditions and stipulations of the labor laws of the respective country.
Your interests, your qualifications and our business requirements are the decisive criteria when we jointly decide on the basic components of your personal program. Your assignments may take you to any one of our worldwide Siemens business locations. You will be working within one of our Sectors in at least two functional areas, such as product development and distribution, product management and marketing or procurement and logistics, for example.
These criteria differ from country to country. For more specific information on the requirements of each SGP country, click here.
If you meet our requirements, then send us your detailed online application straight away. After sighting your documents, we will decide whether to invite you to a preliminary interview. After a successful interview, we will ask you to take part in a special assessment, after which a decision on your participation will be made. Please note that the application procedures often differ from country to country. For details please see the country-specific information provided.
The program is currently available in Germany, Russia, the United States, China, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
During the two-year program, you’ll be taking part in three demanding assignments, each lasting eight months. The program highlight is no doubt the assignment abroad. Your mentor and you will jointly determine your personal program’s content and schedule. He or she will remain at your side for the duration of the program. Siemens will also support your personal and professional development with a variety of special training measures.
Yes, it most certainly is! Being a globally operating company, these assignments abroad represent an important aspect of our corporate culture. They will be carried out in countries whose language and culture will likely be foreign to you, giving you the opportunity to expand your horizons on every level. We’ll choose the optimal destination for your assignment abroad together with you!
