Sabrina Duetemeyer has mastered her foreign assignment in Singapore. Now she has arrived at her third station, where she will continue to work after she has completed the SGP.
I was convinced by the fixed program structure: To take over three different projects with responsible tasks within two years gives you a broad insight into three different fields (such as Sales, Strategy, R&D, etc…)
As a member of the Siemens Graduate Program you get the chance to complete one of the three assignments (eight months) abroad. To be part of an international project team is truly special and is very forward-looking for future global projects. Furthermore, the given seminars are an additional incentive and make this program special as well.
During my first assignment I was working for Global Procurement. Our department was responsible for supporting R&D in procurement-relevant topics up to production start-up. My duties as a procurement engineer focused on design-to-cost workshops with suppliers as sustainable cost-reduction methods. My second assignment led me to Singapore, where I was involved in a project to install a sales / logistics hub for the ASEAN region. Since April 2010 I have been working for Strategic Logistics, where I will be working after the SGP as well. My tasks comprise the global support for China and Brazil regarding logistics concepts to optimize the performance in the supply chain.
Since my assignment abroad has led me to Singapore I have been part of a very international team – eight people from five different countries. Therefore I have had to adapt to more than one culture during that time.
In my opinion the offered training schemes are a big advantage of the program. To get professional advice from coaches regarding communication and presentation skills, or even get a first insight into team-leading functions make the seminars very valuable for your daily work.
The opportunity to get in touch with other SGPers and even Alumni SGPers all over Siemens is very helpful in building up a network. We meet up with each other at the annual “SGP World Conference”, which all active SGPers attend, at regular get-togethers or even at private organized lunches and after work activities.
After looking back on almost two years as an SGP Member I would definitely apply for this program again.
