In fiscal year 2012, Siemens employees disclosed 8,900 inventions – or 41 inventions per workday.

Our innovations are produced by 29,500 researchers and developers, who are working on new solutions for energy, industry and healthcare – and by over 1,000 new research partnerships into which Siemens enters every year. The number of invention reports per Siemens R&D employee has doubled in the last ten years.

In fiscal year 2011, Siemens invested approximately € 4 billion in research and development.
In Fiscal 2012, we generated revenue of more than € 33 billion in environmental technologies, and helped our clients reduce their annual CO2 emissions by about 332 million metric tonnes – this corresponds to roughly 41% of the CO2 emissions of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Research and development is in progress at around 188 Siemens locations worldwide and the company maintains strategic partnerships with leading research institutions such as the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the Technische Universität München, the RWTH Aachen University, the Technische Universität Berlin, MIT and UC Berkeley in U.S., as well as Tongji University and Tsinghua University in China.
