Manila Electric Company’s Gardner II power station goes into operation. Siemens supplies a 300-MW steam turbine set and four other turbine sets with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW.

Siemens concludes a contract of agency with Engineering Equipment, Inc.

Hospitalia, a partly owned subsidiary of Siemens, supplies and installs all of the medical equipment for the cardiac center in Quezon City.

Siemens concludes a contract of agency with Maschinen & Technik Inc. (MATEC).

Siemens supplies eight synchronous generators with a total capacity of 64 MW for two floating power stations near the Philippine island of Cebu.

A joint venture, Electronic Telephone Systems Industries, Inc. (ETSI), is formed for the production of advanced Siemens communications systems in the Philippines.

A Regional Company is formed under the name Siemens, Inc., Manila. Two years later, it is transformed into a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens AG.

An order is won to build the first combined cycle power plant in the Philippines, in Santa Rita, in the Batangas Province. The plant begins operation in 2000
