Siemens is the No.1 supplier of combined cycle power plants (CCPPs) in Vietnam. Key projects include the 750-megawatt Phu My 3 CCPP, the 1,500-megawatt Ca Mau 1 & 2 CCPP including a long-term maintenance contract, and the 750-megawatt Nhon Trach 2 CCPP which went into operation after a construction period of only 28.5 months. With this, Siemens is making an ecofriendly contribution to alleviating the power shortage and help meet the country’s significantly increasing demand for power.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Vietnam amounted to almost EUR 137.3 million and new orders totaled more than EUR 140.6 million. Siemens currently has around 280 employees in Vietnam.
The history of Siemens in Vietnam dates back to 1979, when the company supplied and installed two industrial steam turbines. Since then, Siemens has participated in numerous infrastructure projects, particularly in key areas of the economy – energy, industry, healthcare and transportation. In 1993, a representative office was established in Hanoi and a branch office in Ho Chi Minh City. Siemens Ltd. was founded in 2002 and Siemens Automation Systems was established in 2005 to create a solid basis for enhancing cooperation with local partners.
Siemens in Vietnam and Vietnam Motors Industry Corporation (Vinamotor) signed a cooperation agreement to install Siemens ELFA® hybrid drive technology in city buses in Vietnam. Implementation of the hybrid bus project marks a significant milestone in the development of Vietnam’s automotive sector and opens up major export opportunities for the industry.
