Siemens has more than 100 manufacturing sites in the U.S. and invests over a billion dollars a year in R&D. Siemens offers a wide range of solutions and services in the U.S., where its Industry, Energy and Healthcare Sectors occupy leading positions. In fiscal 2011, Siemens in the U.S. scored major successes in all three Sectors.
In fiscal 2011 (October 1, 2010 – September 30, 2011), Siemens’ sales in the U.S. amounted to EUR 14.370 billion and new orders totaled EUR 15.735 billion. Siemens currently has approximately 55,690 employees in the U.S.
Siemens’ activities in the U.S. date back to 1854, when the company provided a railway telegraph to Philadelphia. Today, Siemens has over 100 manufacturing facilities and employees in all 50 states. If the company were a standalone business in the U.S., its revenues would place it as 129th on the Fortune 500 list of America’s largest companies.
Siemens announced a EUR 333 million contract to supply 70 electric locomotives for Amtrak, resulting in 250 additional jobs. The company also won two major performance management contracts for energy efficiency upgrades at the University of Louisville and in the city of Houston. It also announced its single largest mobile mining order: to provide 50 trucks equipped with Siemens’ unique AC-drive technology to Indonesia-based Kaltim Prima Coal.
