Siemens offers a wide range of solutions and services in the UAE, where its Energy, Healthcare, Industry, and Infrastructure & Cities Sectors occupy leading positions. In fiscal 2013, Siemens in the UAE scored major successes in all four Sectors:
In November 2012, Siemens announced a three-year service contract for the maintenance of the automation and telecom system for the strategic Habshan-Fujairah crude oil pipeline. The contract was signed with the pipeline's operator, Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO).
Siemens’ Power Transmission Division won a contract to build a new substation in Abu Dhabi to help meet increased power demands from new infrastructure and industrial areas in the emirate’s eastern region. The contract includes turnkey construction of the Shamkha 400/132/33 kV substation for the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Dispatch Company (Transco), which is fully-owned by Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA), the owner of Abu Dhabi’s power generation and transmission grid.
During the fiscal year, Transco awarded Siemens another turnkey contract to supply a high-voltage grid substation at Mirfa, a coastal town 120 km west of the capital of Abu Dhabi. The project will help meet growing demand for power in Abu Dhabi and enhance its availability. Siemens will supply, deliver, install, test, and hand over the 400/220/33-kV grid substation and components, including gas-insulated switchgear, 500 MVA and 100 MVA transformers, reactors, and all other supporting technology.
In June 2013, Siemens won a turnkey contract from Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) to supply three high-voltage substations to the emirate. The substations will help increase reliability and efficiency of power supply in Sharjah, one of the seven emirates that comprise the UAE, to meet the growing demand for electricity there. The project is scheduled for completion over a period of 16 months.
Siemens implemented a turnkey solution for Mubadala Healthcare at Tawam Molecular Imaging Center (Tawam MIC) in Al Ain. The project set a new benchmark for healthcare in the Middle East through a comprehensive concept that ranges from the latest diagnostic capabilities to one of the first cyclotrons in the UAE. A special highlight at the center is its patient-centric concept, which is unprecedented in the region.
In September 2013, Siemens launched an e-business operation in the Middle East to provide regional industrial customers with electronic features and functions for automation and drive systems. With an initial focus on the UAE, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain, the Industry Mall offers more than 135,000 automation and drive technology products and systems, with more than 30 million variations.
In fiscal 2013, Siemens won a contract valued at EUR 15.1 million to supply medium-voltage switchgear to one of the UAE’s main utility companies. Siemens was also awarded an order to supply a switchgear solution for the data center of one of the UAE’s main government departments.
Siemens is executing a contract to supply 36 bus bar protection panels, 85 air-insulated switchgear panels, four capacitor banks panels, and a complete integrated protection control system (IPCS) for the Shah Sulphur station and pipeline project. The project is being developed by Abu Dhabi Gas Development Co. Ltd. (Al Hosn Gas). Siemens is also implementing a contract to supply air-insulated switchgear panels for the Borouge 3 petrochemical complex expansion project in Abu Dhabi.
Siemens has made substantial contributions to many of the UAE’s key infrastructure projects over the last 40 years, including major power and water facilities such as the Jebel Ali G complex, and continues to be instrumental in the country’s ongoing development, delivering on Siemens’ core values of technological excellence, innovation, quality, and reliability. The company is furthering its commitment to the UAE by moving into new regional offices at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi during the first quarter of 2014.
