Siemens has been active in the country since 1900. The company is the market leader in turnkey mobility solutions. Both of Bangkok’s mass transit systems – BTS Skytrain and MRT Blue Line – as well as the new Airport Rail Link services are equipped with Siemens technologies.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Thailand amounted to EUR 798.7 million and new orders totaled more than EUR 779.2 million.
Siemens currently has about 1,200 employees in Thailand.
Siemens activities in Thailand date back to 1900, when Siemens & Halske signed an agency agreement with the local company B. Grimm & Co. to sell Siemens products and systems ranging from electrical systems to medical equipment. In 1995, Siemens established its own legal entity to pursue business opportunities, and since that time has been playing a significant role in helping the country upgrade its infrastructure systems. Siemens Thailand also oversees business activities in Cambodia and Myanmar.
Siemens secured the company’s first wind energy project in Southeast Asia, and will supply 90 wind turbines to K.R. Two Co. Ltd., and First Korat Wind Co., Ltd.. The wind turbines will be installed at Thailand’s first major wind farms – Korat 1 and Korat 2 in Nakorn Ratchasima Province. With a rotor diameter of 101 meters, the 2.3 MW state-of-the-art wind turbines were selected as the technology and equipment that best match the requirements of the project sites.
