Siemens has been a partner to the Slovenian economy for more than 140 years and a significant contributor to Slovenia’s technical heritage. Despite the devastating effects of the economic crisis on activities in the Slovenian construction industry, the Building Technologies Division performed well in fiscal 2012. In the field of energy efficiency, the Division formed a partnership with leading local partners to offer solutions in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Slovenia amounted to almost EUR 77.7 million and new orders totaled nearly EUR 64.2 million. Siemens currently has about 110 employees in Slovenia.
Siemens’ presence in Slovenia dates back to 1869, when an agreement between Siemens founder Werner von Siemens and the management of Slovenian steel company Kranjska industrijska družba was signed regarding the usage of a Siemens patent in iron production. Siemens contributed significantly to Slovenia’s technical heritage by installing the first public lighting systems in various Slovenian cities and the tram network and the municipal power plant in Ljubljana.
Leading the way in imaging and diagnostics, Siemens won a EUR 1.4 million order from the Oncology Institute of Ljubljana for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET CT) imaging equipment. This is the second order for PET CT equipment in Slovenia – the first delivery was to University Medical Center Ljubljana in 2009.
