In 2012, Siemens celebrated the 110th anniversary of its first activities in Slovakia. In the same year, the Company successfully completed a large infrastructure project for reconstruction of the northern railway corridor, worth EUR 30 million. The project scope included building new interlocking cabins, along with the implementation of external elements, IT system, fire safety and more. It was the first large I&C project for Siemens Slovakia that was executed exclusively with its own capabilities. An expert, well-educated workforce was a key reason why six new international Siemens Competence Centers and shared services were established in Slovakia. Furthermore, Siemens donated PLM software worth EUR 2.6 million to two technology universities.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Slovakia amounted to approximately EUR 229 million and new orders totaled almost EUR 211.8 million. Siemens currently has about 1,560 employees in Slovakia.
The history of Siemens in Slovakia dates back to 1902. Siemens established its first representative office in Bratislava in 1993. Today, more than 19 years later, Siemens Slovakia has developed into a strong, highly respected company.
Siemens reconstructed the drives of the reels and loopers at the hot rolling mill of the steel company U.S. Steel Košice, one of the Industry Sector’s largest customers. The reconstruction will contribute to improving the accuracy and operating reliability of one of this customer’s most important operations. For the refinery petrochemical company Slovnaft, Siemens created and activated the applications for controlling, monitoring and reporting the transport of diesel oil and petrol from reservoirs to cross boats in the port through reconstructed oil pipelines.
