Siemens has made a substantial contribution to many of Qatar’s key infrastructure projects over the last 42 years, including the 1,000 megawatt Ras Laffan B independent water and power plant. Under the Memorandum of Agreement signed with QF last year, Siemens plans to establish a key regional infrastructure hub in Qatar and help QF develop infrastructure knowledge within the country. Under the terms of the partnership, Siemens will establish a service headquarters for the company’s regional Power Transmission and Distribution business, develop a regional Competence Center for rail-bound transport, and build an Innovation Center at the Qatar Foundation’s Qatar Science and Technology Park that will develop expertise in important sustainable projects.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Qatar amounted to almost EUR 351 million and new orders totaled over EUR 420 million.
Siemens currently has about 280 employees in Qatar.
Siemens has been active in Qatar since 1970. Siemens WLL Qatar was formed in 2005 . The Company has been active in Qatar’s healthcare sector for more than 35 years and has delivered a number of “firsts” throughout that period. These include the first magnetic resonance imaging system, installed at Hamad General Hospital in 1991, as well as equipment installed at the first oncology center in Al Amal Hospital in 2003.
In July 2012, the Qatar Foundation awarded Siemens’ Rail Systems Division a turnkey contract, valued at more than EUR100 million, for the development of an 11.5 kilometer tramway in Doha, scheduled to be operational in late 2015. This reflects Siemens’ commitment to support the Qatar National Vision 2030.
