The company is helping the country achieve its ambitious energy / climate / environment targets with the close partnership with ENEOP - Eólicas de Portugal - leading reference for the national wind power market, which contract surpasses the EUR 50 million since it was signed. The company has established strategic Research & Development partnerships with, among others, the University of Évora (concentrated solar power), the Instituto Superior Técnico (aerodynamics in high-speed trains) and Inteli (electric mobility).
In fiscal 2011 (October 1, 2010 – September 30, 2011), Siemens’ sales to customers in Portugal amounted to EUR 442.7 million and new orders totaled EUR 314.13 million. With a workforce of over 1,480, two production sites and numerous partnerships with universities and higher education institutions, the company plays an active part in the economic development of Portugal.
In fiscal 2011, Siemens Portugal was awarded a EUR 6-million contract for the supply and maintenance of hold baggage screening equipment at Lisbon airport. The national railway company (CP) awarded the company a maintenance contract for the contactless ticketing and access control system (installed by the company in the previous fiscal year) in 12 stations in the Lisbon metropolitan area.
