Siemens’ activities in Peru date back to the early 1900s when, together with Germany’s J.M. Voith GmbH, the company won contracts to build three hydroelectric power plants for the state-owned power utility Empresa Eléctrica de Arequipa. During the year, Siemens Stiftung (foundation) and Siemens worked on several projects primarily focused on sustainable development for rural communities. Siemens’ record of good corporate governance and social responsibility is highlighted by programs to support education through several agreements with universities and educational institutions. Over the last six years, Siemens has supplied more than 2,000 MW of gas turbine capacity (representing around 30 percent of the country’s total).
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), sales to customers in Peru amounted to almost EUR 262 million and new orders totaled nearly EUR 281.4 million.
Siemens currently has around 350 employees in Peru.
Siemens S.A.C. was founded in Lima in 1968 and later merged with Siemens Building Technologies Peru in 2003. The company has been officially represented in the country since 2003, when it merged with Siemens Building Technologies Peru to create Siemens S.A.C. This year, Siemens also participated in the two-day “Peru Capital Projects & Infrastructure Summit 2012” and was instrumental in exchanging ideas with project developers, investors, and service and solution providers in Peru.
Siemens continued to maintain a strong presence in the city of Lima, Chilca, where it was awarded a contract to supply a gas turbine and three compressors to Termochilca for its 200-MW Santo Domingo de los Olleros power plant. In addition, the company also signed a comprehensive maintenance and service contract with Termochilca for a period of 19 years. Likewise, the company won a contract with Transportadora de Gas del Peru to supply and maintain three compressors for its Camisea project.
