Siemens’ activities in Paraguay date back to 1864, when the company built a telegraph line between the cities of Villeta and Asunción – the second line installed in South America. Siemens signed a representative agreement with Rieder in 1954 and has since continued to expand its presence in the country. In the Healthcare Sector, Siemens has been represented by Elizeche Benítez S.A.C. since 1929, and has built up a solid business in the country since 1935.
In 2011, Siemens won an order, worth EUR 9.8 million, to deliver and install a 220/66-kV, 60-MVA substation, a 35-kilometer-long 66-kV power transmission line, and a 66/23 kV, 30-MVA substation to provide electricity for a soya oil refinery. The turnkey project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.
