Active in Oman since 1974, Siemens is highly committed to the region’s social and economic progress. The company has played an important part in many of Oman’s key infrastructure projects over the last 38 years, including the construction of several large-scale power plants like IPP Sur, the Masdam gas plant and the new Barka 3 power plant. Siemens continues to be instrumental in the country’s ongoing development, delivering on the company’s core values of technological excellence, innovation, quality and reliability.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Oman amounted to almost EUR 333 million and new orders totaled more than EUR 463.5 million. Siemens currently has around 90 employees in key locations across the Sultanate, including Muscat, Barka and Sohar.
Siemens has been active in Oman since 1974. In 2006, Siemens LLC was set up as a local entity in Oman. Siemens AG Oman Branch was established in 2011.
In October 2011, Siemens signed a contract with an independent power project development consortium, lead by Japan’s Marubeni, to supply five SGT5-4000F gas turbines for the Sur independent power project (Sur IPP). Located in the eastern province of Oman, the Sur IPP is the largest gas-fired power plant project in Oman. When completed, the power plant will have a capacity of 2,000 MWs. Further, Siemens signed a long-term service agreement for the five SGT5-4000F gas turbines at the Sur IPP.
