Siemens offers a wide range of solutions and services in Malaysia, where its Energy, Healthcare, Industry and Infrastructure & Cities Sectors occupy leading positions in Malaysia. In fiscal 2013, Siemens in Malaysia scored major successes with key nation-building projects in all four Sectors:
In the Energy Sector, Siemens Malaysia made history by being the first country outside of Germany to sell two units of the SGT5-8000H. These high-efficiency gas turbines will be supplied to the new Tenaga Nasional Berhad 1,000-MW Prai combined cycle gas turbine power plant. This success was further underscored by another contract from the national utility giant Tenaga Nasional Berhad, for the delivery of one SGT5-4000F single-shaft gas turbine for the Connaught Bridge 350-MW Power Station.
Committed to providing Malaysians with access to modern healthcare, Siemens secured a contract to deliver and install three Ysio Digital Radiography systems at Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya , which forms part of the Sime Darby Healthcare Group (now known as Ramsay Sime Darby), one of the biggest private healthcare providers in Malaysia. This unique x-ray system allows for simultaneous FAST movement in six axes, maximized comfort and outstanding images. The Sime Darby Medical Centre’s installed base of Ysio systems is the largest in ASEAN. A multi-modality project at Island Hospital, Penang, is another key win for the fiscal year. Siemens Malaysia supplied the hospital with two extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) systems, consisting of LITHOSCOP, a multifunctional high-end lithotripter and Modularis Variostar, a highly flexible and modular lithotripter. Along with these two ESWL systems, the Sector also supplied Island Hospital with two ACUSON ultrasound systems (X150 and X300). The key factor for winning this contract was a strong preference by the customer for Siemens solutions.
As one of the world’s leading suppliers of innovative, environmentally friendly products and solutions for industry customers, Siemens provided a complete solution for Biocon Sdn Bhd – a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company focused on biopharmaceuticals, custom research and clinical research – by supplying and installing a low-voltage switchgear and motor control center and a project management solution. In collaboration with M+W High Tech Projects Malaysia Sdn Bhd Engineering and Construction company, Siemens provided Infineon Technologies in Kulim with a variable-speed drive package and facility monitoring and control system.
As part of its major infrastructure plan to reduce transportation congestion and pollution in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan area, Kuala Lumpur’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) ordered 58 Inspiro trains from Siemens and commissioned the company to construct two maintenance depots. Completion of the project is scheduled for July 2017. The Sector also had successes with two key customers, Infineon Technologies and Petronas Berhad. As a global leading supplier for power distribution systems, Siemens provided Infineon Technologies Malaysia with medium-voltage switchgears for its factory in Kulim, Kedah. The company signed a Global Framework Agreement with Petronas to supply high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgears.
As a committed corporate citizen, Siemens Malaysia participated in a wide variety of local activities during the year, focusing on the areas of education & science, social engagement as well as arts and culture. Siemens Malaysia developed a simulation game challenge called “SieMyCity: Build Your Ideal Kuala Lumpur” held among local university and college students. The “Bake for Change” concept featured a series of baking lessons for orphaned teenage girls and was mentored by Siemens Malaysia employees. To encourage the love for science and technology, Siemens entered a partnership with KidZania, an edutainment theme park, and participated at the Science Film Festival organized by the Goethe Institute Malaysia. In the field of training and continuing education, Siemens offers the Mechatronics Systems Certification Program and continued medical education and training to support the lifelong learning of medical professionals in Malaysia.
