In collaboration with Korean engineering procurement construction (EPC) companies, Siemens Korea was also able to secure various overseas projects.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Korea amounted to more than EUR 1.16 billion and new orders totaled almost EUR 2.17 billion. Siemens currently has about 1,750 employees in Korea.
Siemens’ activities in Korea date back to the 1950s, when the company helped rebuild the country’s infrastructure following the Korean War. Since then, Siemens has substantially expanded its business activities. In 2012 the company relocated its office to provide its employees with a comfortable, efficient and more flexible business environment based on its mobile office concept. As a good corporate citizen, Siemens in Korea has run the "Siemens Caring Hands Ai SaRang KiKeum (fund to love kids)” program for supporting 60 single-parent children since 2007, and recently launched the “Siemens Mobile Clinic” in 2012.
The first driverless full automatic Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in South Korea was completed and put into operation in July 2012. The 11.1 km fully automated metro line, using Siemens Val (which stands for Véhicule Automatique Léger or Automatic Light-rail Vehicle) links eastern Uijeongbu to the city centre.
