Siemens started a groundbreaking, three-year cooperation with the City of Turku in Finland. As a result, the parties published the first study of the economic and ecological impacts of the planned light rail. Siemens published a study on sustainability for Finland’s capital city Helsinki.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Finland and the Baltic States amounted to almost EUR 486.2 million and new orders totaled EUR 491 million. Siemens currently has about 700 employees in Finland and the Baltic States.
Siemens has been active in Finland since 1855, in Latvia since 1852 and in Estonia and Lithuania since 1854. The business in the Baltic States was relaunched in 1994 –1995. Siemens is the market leader in industry automation and wind turbines.
Siemens Finland signed a groundbreaking three-year contract covering strategic cooperation with Turku, one of the largest cities in Finland. The cooperation will focus on concrete projects. The first such project was the Lightrail Impact Study, which was published in September. The study showed that Turku could reduce its CO2 emissions by 11 percent and increase the value of real estate by EUR 480-850 million by 2030.
