Siemens has been active in the country since 1890. With its eight production plants, it is a leading company and among the ten major exporters in the Czech Republic. As a leading green infrastructure company, Siemens signed its first contract in the Czech Republic for the construction of a wind farm at Libava.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in the Czech Republic amounted to around EUR 485.7 million. New orders totaled almost EUR 578.6 million. Siemens currently has about 9,590 employees in the Czech Republic, making it one of the top ten employers in the country.
The history of Siemens in the Czech Republic dates back to 1885, when Siemens & Halske Vienna provided lighting for the Theater of the Estates. Siemens established its first Representative Office in the Czech Republic in 1890. Today, 122 years later, Siemens in the Czech Republic has developed into a strong and highly respected group of companies.
Siemens signed a contract with Skoda Praha Invest for the modernization of the control system and electrical components of the Prunerov II power plant. The contract is valued at more than EUR 125 million, making it the second largest renewal measure in the Czech Republic. The project began in 2012 and will provide the power station with the latest technology, guaranteeing safe and high-tech operation for the next 20 to 30 years.
