In fiscal 2011, Siemens demonstrated solid performance in both production and sales. With the recovery of the global markets, Siemens boosted manufacturing volumes and lifted its hiring freeze. Siemens pioneered e-mobility in the Czech Republic and was one of the first companies to open charging stations for e-cars at its locations and add electric cars to its fleet.
In fiscal 2011 (October 1, 2010 – September 30, 2011), Siemens´ sales to customers in the Czech Republic amounted to around EUR 522.8 million. New orders totaled almost EUR 420.2 million. Siemens currently has about 9,650 employees in the Czech Republic, making it among the top 10 employers.
Siemens has been active in the country since 1890. With its eight plants, it is a leading company in the Czech Republic and among the major exporters in the Czech Republic.
The Mobility Division signed a EUR 200 million contract with the state-owned Ceske drahy (Czech Railways) for the supply of 16 Viaggio Comfort long-distance high-speed trains. The Energy Sector rebuilt the municipal incinerator in the city of Brno. Since this past summer, the incinerator has been generating heat and electricity for 55,000 households. The reconstruction, valued at EUR 94.2 million, took three years to complete. The Energy Sector signed a contract with SKODA PRAHA INVEST S.R.O for the renovation of the Prunéřov II power plant. The contract is valued at more than EUR 125 million, making it the second largest renewal measure in the Czech Republic for Siemens.
