Siemens has been active in Croatia since 1886 and participated in the modernization of the national oil pipeline system, every oil refinery and every thermal power plant in the country. The Company supports many of the country’s educational and science programs. It also continuously invests in a variety of employee programs for educational, professional and personal development. A consortium of Siemens and Elektrokem d.o.o. from Zagreb won the contract for the delivery of a modern electronic signaling and safety system. The project, worth EUR 10.4 million, is a breakthrough for Siemens in the Croatian rail solutions market.
Under this project, the entire existing signaling and safety infrastructure at the Zagreb main station will be replaced with state-of-the-art electronic components and systems over the next two years.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Croatia amounted to more than EUR 103.2 million and new orders totaled approximately EUR 134.6 million. Siemens currently has about 1,200 employees in Croatia.
The first evidence of Siemens’ connection to and interest in the territory of Croatia is a letter from the company’s representative, Herman Kellermann, dated March 1886, in which he informs the Vienna headquarters that there is potential for business. And he was right. At the end of 2011 Siemens Croatia celebrated 125 years of presence on the Croatian market. For the celebration, various activities were organized for clients and customers at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Zagreb.
In fiscal 2011, the Energy Sector signed a contract with ECO d.o.o., co-owned by Dalekovod, for the delivery of 16 wind turbines for the Zadar 2 WF and Zadar 3 WF projects. This is the largest individual contract ever for Siemens in Croatia. The construction and testing of the wind farms was finished in the second quarter of fiscal 2012. Wind farm acceptance was concluded at the end of January 2012 and commercial operation started in February. The total power of the wind farms is 36.8 MW, generating around 120,000 MWh per year – enough to supply power to more than 30,000 households.
