Siemens has been active in Bosnia and Herzegovina for over 125 years. As a proven partner in the country’s energy modernization, Siemens successfully implemented the Third Electric Power Reconstruction Project (Power 3) with Elektroprivreda Republic of Srpska, the power utility company of the Republic of Srpska. Together with the City of Sarajevo, Siemens successfully organized a competition for students called Sarajevo – City of the Future, in which students had the opportunity to show their creativity and solutions to address infrastructure challenges facing Sarajevo.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to approximately EUR 29.5 million and new orders totaled almost EUR 27.9 million. Siemens currently has about 60 employees in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In fiscal 2012, Siemens Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated its 125th anniversary of doing business in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company’s first activity was the introduction of the electric tram for the streets of Sarajevo in 1895. By 1936, Siemens had already emerged as a partner in the country and the local economy, thanks to a joint project with the Elektrocentar Company in Sarajevo to produce switching devices and components. In 1990, Siemens Erlangen established a joint venture in Sarajevo called Siemens Medical Technologies. Finally, in 1996, Siemens d.o.o. Sarajevo was founded, with a major capital share owned by Siemens AG Austria.
As a market leader in the healthcare sector, Siemens delivered and installed the first magnetic resonance (MR) equipment in the country, the MAGNETOM SKYRA 3 Tesla, at the clinical hospital Mostar. A state-of-the-art unit for extra corporal shock wave lithotripsy, the LITHOSKOP system for kidney and gallbladder stones, was delivered and installed in the Clinical Center of Tuzla University.
