We offer customers energy-saving lighting products and solutions for all areas of modern life. Our extensive portfolio includes not only lamps and optoelectronic semiconductor light sources such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), LED systems and LED luminaires but also electronic control gear and light management systems.
About 20 percent of the world’s electricity is consumed by electric lighting. Intelligent lighting solutions could cut this figure by up to 80 percent in comparison to a standard solution – and thus substantially reduce global CO2 emissions. We offer energy-saving solutions for all lighting applications and – together with Siemens’ Building Technologies Division – integrate them into total lighting systems for energy-efficient buildings. The result is a triple-win situation: the environment benefits from reduced CO2 emissions, our customers gain from lower energy consumption, and our company profits from increased business opportunities. In 2008, we received the German Sustainability Award for our portfolio of energy-efficient products. Today, these same products generate over 70 percent of our total revenue.
Our energy-saving products give us a strong position in a market that will be driven in the current decade by green solutions like Solid State Lighting (LED). Market researchers forecast the penetration of the markets with LEDs to have reached 60 percent by 2020. Together with our customers, we intend to actively shape this transition by providing innovations along the entire value chain – from individual LEDs to LED modules, controls and systems to LED luminaires and projects.
As a technology leader and key player in the global LED market, we continually invest in research and development and now boast one of the largest patent portfolios in our industry. We regularly set world records for LED brightness and efficiency. As early as in August 2009, for instance, we were the world’s first manufacturer to market an LED lamp that is an adequate substitute for the 40-watt light bulb. For this reason, we’ve further expanded our production capacities for green lighting solutions, especially LED, particularly in the high-growth Asia-Pacific region.
