The Mobility and Logistics Division comprises three business units: Rail Automation, headquartered in Berlin, is the world market leader in signaling and control technology for rail-bound mass transit and mainline transportation. The Munich-based business unit Road and City Mobility supplies intelligent solutions for the improvement of mobility, safety, and environment protection in road traffic. Its product range includes energy-efficient LED signals, scalable traffic computers, complete traffic control centers, and even satellite-based toll systems for intercity traffic. Charging infrastructure and parking space management solutions complement this range. The core business of the new Division’s third business unit, Logistics and Airport Solutions, comprises systems and solutions for mail and parcel logistics and automation, airport logistics with baggage and air freight handling, IT, and services.

“When we observe the current stunning growth of cities and what sort of demands this triggers for their infrastructures in transport and logistics,” says Sami Atiya, CEO of Mobility and Logistics, “we see a big business potential there. How will cities cope with the challenges of road traffic? How will rail operators increase efficiency and safety of their transport systems? What is the right way to go in setting up infrastructure for e-vehicles? Dr. Sami Atiya has become CEO of the Mobility and Logistics Division on October 1, 2011. Dr. Atiya holds a PhD in Engineering, in the field of robotics, image processing, and IT. He holds a Masters degree in Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, with major in Automation and Control Engineering, as well as an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Atiya has been working with Siemens since 1997, holding various management positions in Munich, Malvern, Pennsylvania, U.S., and Erlangen, Germany. Prior to his current position he was the CEO of the Computed Tomography (CT) business of the Healthcare Sector.

Many products and solutions of the Mobility and Logistics Division are integral parts of the Siemens environmental portfolio. In fiscal 2011, revenue from the green Portfolio totaled about €30 billion, making Siemens one of the world’s largest suppliers of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO₂ emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
